A button or thumbturn on the inside locks the outside, with an emergency release on the outside. Typical for restrooms and bedrooms.
About this mortise lock
A mortise lock fits a pocket cut into the door edge, which gives a stronger, longer-wearing lock than a bored cylindrical lock. The function sets how the lever, thumbturn and key behave, and most commercial mortise locks take a separate mortise cylinder or interchangeable core.
